Let’s face the music and dance!
23 May 2011
Beauty in Tunis, the tango in Seoul, a solar powered airplane, human rights problems in Thailand and a missing English child in Portugal, that’s the menu for this week.
In Thailand, it is a crime to say or do anything that shows disrespect for the King. Now scouts are being recruited by the Ministry of Justice to monitor websites and social networks and report on anyone guilty of making critical comments about His Majesty. This has raised serious concerns both inside and outside Thailand, but some Thais feels that the move is needed. Watch Lèse-majesté in Thailand to find out more. On a lighter note, the tango festival this May in Seoul is drawing people from many countries to the passionate Argentinian dance. The Koreans feel that the dance suits their mentality. You will understand why when you see Tango fever sweeps South Korea.
Tunis is now under curfew again, causing problems for salons and spas that were used to staying open late to cater for customers going to late-night parties or weddings. It is hard to stay beautiful in Tunis today. Read about it in Beauty under curfew in Tunis. The sad case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann four years ago still drags on, but with little prospect of being resolved. Her parents have launched a book entitle “Madeleine” in the hope of getting the funds to keep the search for her going. Madeleine McCann’s parents demand review of her case.
Finally, there is an interesting article on the environment and technology. A Swiss solar-powered aircraft has just made its first international flight, landing at an international airport in Belgium. What a difference it would make if we were all able to travel so cleanly by air. The article is accompanied by an info-graphic giving details of the aircraft and explaining its plans for the future. Watch the graphic and read: Swiss solar-powered aircraft make first international flight.
Until next week!
